Yes you are entitled to assistance from the government to help with your mortgage payments, but this is not available for at least 9 months and it will only cover the interest on the mortgage. Usually by this time, the Lender has become somewhat impatient and can or will have started legal proceedings on repossessing your home.

Miss B has just taken a mortgage out and has concerns over what would happen if she was made redundant or was unable work due to an accident or sickness. Her mortgage commitment was £400 per month, and other associated bills such as Electricity, Gas, Water rates and Council Tax bills amounted to an additional £100.

Quoting on the Accident Sickness and redundancy plan where £500 per month is paid tax free to the client to pay those bills equated to only £23.22 for a 30 day deferred period or  £20.92 for a 60 day deferred period, that's less that £1 a day for peace of mind.
